Everyone of us has the same burden. A shadow, a looming darkness deep in our soul. Waiting to be let out. We’re all born with it, there is no denying. It is our nature, it’s a part of what makes us human.

But what to make of it? I feel like, if you express it in a way that will not hurt yourself or any other being, then everything is allowed. Over many hundreds/thousands of years, humans have tried to express the darkness of the soul through art.

Francisco de Goya’s “Saturn Devouring His Son” is a well known exempt. A painting you could spend wondering hours and hours while looking at it. Or more modern and for your ears, the song “The Abysmal Eye” from Meshuggah. You could study the lyrics without listening to the song and you’d learn a thing or two about yourself.

Recently, through dialogue, meditation and research, I’ve come face to face with my own darkness over and over again. Now I’m trying to figure out how to birth a song that is straight out of my soul, like a piece of glas of a shattered mirror. I feel obligated to share my learnings.

It is incredibly hard to express it and give it form. Not necessarily through words(/lyrics), but through sounds and rhythms. Could be very simple, very primal. Or super complex and grandé. Funny how things work sometimes, not even started with one note in the arrangement – but I already know that I want to name the song “Eclipse”. Maybe… things change all the time.
This is a journey I want to share, so my goal will be to make this a series.
