Music can be so strange. And so enchanting.
After I have recently bought myself an Ibanez 8-String AND 9-String guitar within the span of a few weeks – I probably should name something from Meshuggah. The titans of really brutal metal. Music that is inconceivably heavy and ingeniously crafted. Lyrics that feel like forbidden knowledge about the human soul and the universe or existence itself. Kinda feels ancestral listening to them. In one word: enriching.
And yet, I return to a song from an artist that couldn’t be more different from Meshuggah. Not a band, just a lady and her band. So maybe a band after all?
Her songs and words can show yourself how fragile you truly are. She is an expert at softening the soul and reaching out to your deepest self.
It’s witchery how good and intrinsic her art is. She has mastered the art of changing, transforming and evolving people. If you allow her to, she will result in a change of character. This is the full power of music.
What I decided – no – what was clear from the very beginning is that I want to cover my favorite songs. I should at least cover two of the songs that make me prance. And one of them will be the song I deem to be perfect, to return to the original question.
One of AURORA’s songs is on a grander level of expertise that only a very, very, very few artists will ever reach. And most of those chosen will only manage one song in their whole career on that niveau. AURORA does it occasionally. All while evolving her sound and playing with creativity.
The production in this particular piece is fascinating, with (kick?) drums that sound like a heartbeat pulse. She uses her own voice as an addition to the melody and atmosphere as an effect. It builds up to the rather orgasmic climax ending in which she uses all her might and elegant control to amplify her voice to the height of her ability. You’ll feel that.
“When The Dark Dresses Lightly” is, in my humble opinion, the perfect song. That’s why I will cover it, because I can’t get enough and catch myself singing it at random moments. Ultimately, this is one of the songs that are my main motivators why I create music. She ignites the fire in me. As you now might be able to guess: I’m a big fan of her work. I invite you to sing her songs together!
To cover this song is going to be an extremely difficult challenge. How could I ever reach this level of epicness and incorporate my own style? Because a man’s dream will never die, right? Zehahahaha… Louder, louder! LOUDER!
